This deduction can reduce your taxable profit. It is not the amount of tax you save. You generally cannot also claim fuel, servicing and other vehicle running costs for the same vehicle when using simplified mileage rates.

Cars & vans

55p per mile for the first 10,000 miles from 6 April 2026, then 25p. The 2025/26 rate was 45p for the first 10,000 miles, then 25p.

Motorcycles

24p per business mile in both years, regardless of total distance.

Bicycles

Bicycles: not covered by simplified expenses — claim actual costs instead.

02 / THE RATES

The simple version of HMRC mileage rates.

These are simplified expense rates for eligible business travel. Claiming mileage requires a reliable journey record, not just an annual total.
